DAVIES FINDS HIS FEET DURING FRIDAY PRACTICE

Friday 26 August 2016 Erebus Motorsport’s Shae Davies feels cool, calm and collected after having his first ever steer in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship this afternoon. The 26-year old stepped up to the main game only just over a week ago to driver the team’s #4 Holden Commodore this weekend, and for the remainder of the season. “I was pretty relaxed going into today, everyone has been so great it’s been a pleasure,” Davies said. “Thankfully I wasn’t too nervous going into today and I had no expectations, obviously being in the car those expectations rose immediately, but I was still pretty relaxed. “At the rookie test day last week I was pretty comfortable (in the car) but then we come to a new track and I’ve got to learn again but it’s a welcome change.” Davies said he was pleased to make his debut at Sydney Motorsport Park after experiencing success here in the past. “I think SMP is a good track for me, I think it will lay well with me but having said that after being in the car this morning there are a few things we need to work on,” he said. “Having the e-cell in the car today was quite a change, I got pretty comfortable in the car last week before that. “It’s just different, I really enjoy what it is about and I think it’s fantastic to have in the car, but I just need a few more sessions to get my head around it.” “Between practices we made a change with the steering ergonomics and it was an improvement, we will make a few more tonight and it will feel pretty good. “I was happy on the old tyre but to be brutally honest, I made two errors on my green tyre run and didn’t maximise that which was a shame but thankfully there is another practice tomorrow.” Davies will have one last 15-minute practice session tomorrow ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying, a challenge Davies says he is looking forward to. “It’s going to be a really fast paced qualifying session but I’m excited about that, it’s also more tyres than I’m used to, its two sets, so for me that’s just another chance to get the run right and maximise the green tyre.” Davies will be back on track at 1:00pm AEST tomorrow.
